Happy Friday!

I’m linking up with Erika today for Friday Favorites!

first favorite:

At church last Sunday we had a wonderful guest speaker who retold the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 from the Gospel of Matthew–and I absolutely needed to hear it.

13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 14:13-21

This reminded me that Christ often charges us with endeavors that seem impossible or maybe we even feel ill-equipped to handle.

This is often how I feel in regards to work: I have TAOLB to create and an ever-growing Stella Team (up to 10!!) and 12 hours a week of un-interrupted time for work–less if a kid is sick or if I have some other non-work-related commitment. As much as I LOVE both of these jobs, and know it was the Lord that lead me to both of them, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by them, and I have found myself looking at the Lord and asking, “How am I supposed to do this? How am I supposed to create quality work in such little time?”

Now I will look at Matthew and put myself in the shoes of the disciples. The Lord charged them to feed the crowd. In their eyes there wasn’t enough food to do this. But the Lord said, bring me what you do have. And Jesus was able to do His work and create a miracle.

Consciously I will be giving the Lord my 12 hours each week so that He can accomplish what He wants to accomplished. Life is so much more simple when you look at it that way.

On Sunday evening, Brian and I took the boys to the Dallas Mavericks basketball game. It was Caleb’s first time and I’ll say he did pretty well. It was especially entertaining to watch him watch the Dallas Maverick’s Dancers…

Here are a few comments that came out of his mouth while they were dancing:

Why are they naked?

Why are they wiggly?

Where do those girls live?

And then sometimes he would just stare. Open-mouthed. Speechless…

Chicken Edamame Salad

Remember this recipe? I posted it last Spring and have recently returned to it as a healthy little snack to help kick my eat-everything-all-day-every-day habit. We’re headed to the beach next month and then to Scottsdale…potato chips and Valentine candy aren’t really helping.

We all went to the dentist and had no cavities…well James had one filling that fell out so they had to fill it again, but other than that we are good! Oh except for me. I have a cavity. And Caleb needs sealants. And James’ 6 year old molars need sealants. And our bill was enormous. Why was this a favorite…?
