Cocktail dresses are probably my most favorite type of garment to purchase, but to be honest, they are the least worn “section” of my wardrobe.

Styling a new party look with what is already in your wardrobe is much more simple than it appears. All you need is a formula.

Like this:

Dressy black top + bright colored skirt + sparkly statement necklace + killer clutch + close toed heel = fabulous party look!

I know you remember this skirt from last Fall. I styled with a floral top here, and then with a shearling vest here…and now its back for the round of 2015 Christmas parties.

If you don’t have a basic “dressy” black top in your wardrobe, you should invest in one or two. I found this one at Last Call in the Summer. The airy chiffon makes it dressy. The pleats and lack of glitter make it classic. I often find myself gravitating toward interesting silhouettes like this because they are unexpected, and what’s stylish about looking like everyone else?

The Starlet Pearl Necklace by Stella and Dot has been one of our biggest holiday sellers this year. Is it not gorgeous? The mixture of sparkle and pearl is a basic dream come true, plus it can be worn 4 different ways. The sparkle pearl ear jackets are INCREDIBLE! They come with a pearl stud and a sparkle stud and are the ultimate in statement earring for all to admire this season. An arm party of different shapes and textures finishes the look with an edgy flare.

Don’t stress if a new dress isn’t in the budget this year. Play around with what you already have like I did. Interesting silhouettes, sparkly jewels and bright colors can come together to for a dynamite, cohesive look that will stun.

Happy styling everyone!
